Winter Virtual Preview Event
Roy Atwood, the president of Reformed Evangelical Seminary, welcomed attendees to an introductory session about the seminary. The session aimed to provide an overview of the seminary's mission, vision, programs, and key personnel, followed by a Q&A segment.
Mission and Vision:
The seminary's goal is to assist churches in equipping pastors and leaders for orthodoxy and orthopraxy, focusing on local churches rather than the seminary itself.
The vision includes bringing experienced pastors and educators to congregations for robust training in biblical and theological studies, keeping students rooted in their local communities.
Key Personnel:
The board of directors includes Timothy Venbrook, Pastor Bo Hogebill, Steve Jeffrey, Virgil Hurt, Randy Booth, and Sebastian Small Arts.
The administration team consists of Roy Atwood (President), CJ Bowen (Director of Student Development), Lauren Shearer (Registrar and Bursar), Bo Cogbill (Biblical Counseling Coordinator), Britain Brewer (Greek and New Testament Coordinator), and John Decker (Hebrew and Old Testament Coordinator).
Programs:
The seminary offers three degree programs: Master of Divinity (MDiv), Master of Christian Studies (MCS), and Certificate of Christian Studies (CCS).
The MDiv program requires 90 credits, including biblical languages and pastoral theology classes.
The academic calendar is structured around the church calendar, with three major terms and a summer term for intensive courses.
Teaching Model:
The seminary prioritizes live lectures and interactive discussions over pre-recorded content, making seminary education affordable and accessible.
The hybrid model allows students to stay in their local church context while pursuing further education.
Mentoring:
MDiv students are required to have a pastoral mentor to guide them through their studies and practical ministry experiences.
Tuition and Fees:
Tuition is $200 per credit, with discounts available for church partners.
The church partner program offers a 50% tuition discount for designated students and additional benefits for the church.
Admissions:
The application process includes providing personal information, previous education details, a pastoral reference, a writing sample, and a financial statement.
The session concluded with a Q&A segment, addressing questions about workload, course selection, and the hybrid teaching model.
