ADMISSIONS

Applicants must submit a clear, concise, and honest description of their personal history, education, church affiliations, Christian life, current marital, familial, and vocational status, and reasons for wanting to pursue studies at Reformed Evangelical Seminary. They should explain why they think Reformed Evangelical Seminary and its programs will meet their specific vocational goals and interests. They should indicate how their previous background, academic studies, Christian training, prior experience with online or distance learning technologies, etc., have prepared them to succeed in and to benefit from their studies at the Seminary, if admitted.

Applicants to the Reformed Evangelical Seminary should hold at least a bachelor’s degree in any field from a recognized institution of higher education. Students without a bachelor-level degree should explain why their prior academic and life experiences are roughly equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and/or have sufficiently prepared them for advanced theological study. Applicants whose degrees were earned at institutions whose primary language is not English must provide an English translation of their transcripts and degrees held.

The Admissions Committee considers confidential pastoral evaluations very seriously. These evaluations should provide nonacademic indicators of personal integrity, and familial, social, and spiritual faithfulness that are essential to the Committee’s assessment of how well a student is prepared to benefit from and pursue advanced biblical and theological study in ministry. When a pastoral evaluation seems to contradict other evidence in the applicant’s portfolio, the Admissions Committee may contact the pastor and/or the applicant directly to seek additional information and clarification. The applicants are responsible for contacting their pastors and requesting that they fill out the online Pastoral Evaluation Form. The completed Pastoral Evaluation Form must be submitted directly from the pastor to the Seminary and not through the applicant.

The Admissions Committee would like to review a representative sample of the blogs, online material, videos, and social media posts the applicant has created or shared publicly. Please provide links to those.

The Admissions Committee would like to review a writing sample to assess the applicant’s writing skills and rhetorical abilities. The work applicants submit may be on any subject and in any style of writing, but it should represent what the applicant considers among his or her best writing.

The Seminary receives many applications from truly needy students around the world. The Admissions Committee assesses how well applicants may be able to meet their financial obligations. The point of the Statement of Financial Commitment is not to pry into an applicant’s personal financial records, but to clarify how applicants will fund their education—from their personal resources, support from their home and partnering churches, gifts from friends and family, scholarships, etc., and what they may still lack—and meet their financial obligations to the Seminary, if accepted. Applicants are strongly encouraged to inform their pastors and church leaders about the Seminary’s Church Partnership Program (see the Church Partnership Program) as a strategic and stewardly way for congregations to support the next generation of pastors and church leaders.

Applicants may be interviewed by the Admissions Committee on an as-needed basis.
